We had a great turn out at our last meeting.......in attendance were 62 concerned citizens & members that signed in. We hope to double this number by our next meeting on September 3rd, location TBD. At our meeting we introduced the H.E.L.P. website and our mission statement. You can visit the website at http://www.helpcorp.org/. Please send anyone, family, friend, neighbor, etc., to our site if they are interested in information on our upcoming events, making donations, signing up to volunteer, discussion forums, and more. Upcoming events as discussed at meeting are as follows: Thursday, August 20, 2009 *This event has moved locations due to some complications with their prior reserved building. This information is correct as of 8/13/2009 3:11 p.m. (verified by Kelli) Saturday, August 22, 2009 Wednesday, August 26, 2009 *Participation is key to letting your voice be heard!
HR 3200 BILL (Health Care Bill) We spoke of this bill and were uncertain if we had a copy of the most current. We addressed all in attendance asking for volunteers to sign up and help read a portion of the proposed Health Care Bill. Our goal is if we get enough volunteers we can divide up into groups & assign a number of pages for each group to read. The groups would then meet among each other to discuss their interpretation. Once all have finished, we could then present this at our next meeting. Thus having collectively, as a whole, read the entire bill At this time we have 5 volunteers and are in need of more. Please respond to this email if you are interested in volunteering.
Other Meeting Highlights: Pocket Constitutions were handed out......if you don't have one......GET ONE! This is something we should all familiarize ourselves with in order to "fight a good fight" for our rights. Several of our Committee Leaders spoke on what their goals are and urging members to volunteer & get involved. Donations collected at meeting totaled $552.00 Also, AARP was brought to attention at the meeting & their stance on being in favor of this Health Care Bill. A member in attendance shared with us two other organizations to check out. Achievements: Contacting our Elected Officials: Possible Upcoming Event (though we sure hope not) Together we can move mountains.... and that's what we intend to do.
